Hypnosis & Mindfulness
Helmut Relinger | Psychologist
“During hypnosis a person can concentrate intensely on a specific thought, memory or emotion while blocking out external sources of distraction.” – Helmut Relinger PhD.
In my 30 years of practicing psychotherapy, I have treated virtually every psychological problem imaginable. I have learned that it is crucial to see every person as unique and special, and to tailor my therapeutic interventions to meet individual emotional needs.

Programs
The goal of hypnotherapy is to alleviate emotional pain.
Hypnosis is not a treatment in itself. It is a powerful adjunct that makes psychotherapeutic intervention more effective. It adds new elements of realization, motivation, suggestibility and the opportunity to practice new ways of thinking and feeling in a safe environment.
Hypnosis is particularly effective for reliving fear: Fear of flying, fear of driving (post auto accident), fear of heights, claustrophobia, stage fright and fear of failure. Insomnia, social anxieties, agitation and can be resolved. I also run young adult social skill groups and specialize in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Autism, PTSD, Marital Counseling and Depression.

FAQ’s
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of human consciousness involving focused attention, reduced external awareness and an enhanced capacity for response to suggestion. It is an altered state of mind or “trance”, marked by a level of awareness that is different from the ordinary conscious state.
Hypnotized subjects typically manifest an increased response to positive suggestion. At a minimum, individuals report deep levels of relaxation, well-being, and an increased focus and motivation to accomplish therapeutic goals.
Hypnosis can heighten visual and emotional experiences and facilitate alteration of negative and painful psychological processes. These psychological experiences can then be channeled into more productive and healing directions. This is accomplished by teaching patients to redirect emotions, perceptions, sensations, thoughts and behaviors.
What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT is a very successful form of psychotherapy that utilizes psychotherapeutic techniques designed to alter negative thoughts or cognitions. Such habitual thought patterns often activate distressing emotional and physiological reactions. These can cause people to behave in ways that are not in their interest, often exacerbating psychological discomfort. Such thoughts usually feel automatic and important.
We have core beliefs, many developed in early childhood, for which we have no conscious awareness. They tend to have strong emotional influence even if they are no longer relevant or even rational.
CBT teaches patients to challenge and change habitual thought patterns that cause emotional distress. After becoming aware of the inaccurate cognitive tendencies, we can strategically practice new beliefs which are more productive and accurate given current realities. The goal of CBT is to change our thinking about various aspects of our lives that make us unhappy and learn new attitudes about ourselves to maximize our strengths and potential.
